Walkthrough — Unlock Hoenn to Petra
Unlock Hoenn first
- Beat Johto Champion Lance.
- Follow the champion book: Trainer Association → Hoenn Trainer Card (your level cap resets for Hoenn).
- Craft the Hoenn Cartography Table — see Gym maps.
Prepare
Water, Grass, Fighting, and Ground answer Rock hard. Watch Thunder Punch / Flamethrower coverage on her Geodude.
- Coverage: Water, Grass, Fighting, and Ground answer Rock hard.
- Leader party levels: about 19–21
- Approx cap while this fight is next: ~26 — Level cap
- Heals, status cures, spare balls, claimed base / waystone to retreat to
- Rocky Mountains tip — bring blocks/scaffolding for the climb and a waystone at the base.
Craft the map
- Search Petra in REI and craft Rock Tome.
- Craft a fresh Empty Map.
- Combine Empty Map + Rock Tome in the Hoenn Cartography Table (or trade a Map Guide villager).
- Hover the finished map for coordinates. Details: Gym maps.
Important
Do not open the Empty Map in the world first — that ruins it for gym crafting. Use the correct region cartography table.
Fight tips
Onix and Nosepass can wall physical attackers. Watch Thunder Punch / Flamethrower coverage on her Geodude.
- Travel with heals; activate waystones on the route.
- Clear gym trainers if you need XP or PokéDollars.
- Heal, then challenge Petra.
- Win → level cap rises → next: Rudi.
